Copyright & Notice Policy (DMCA + DSA)

Last updated: 16 October 2025

Akanaba hosts researcher profiles curated from public sources and user-submitted content, and may display publication metadata (e.g., abstract excerpts, thumbnails) and embeds (e.g., YouTube). We also index links to external resources (including dataset and code links). If you believe material on Akanaba infringes your rights, follow the steps below.

2) How to send a proper Notice (DMCA in the US; Notice‑and‑Action in the EU)

To help us act quickly, your notice must include (see 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3)):

  1. Your contact info (name, address, email, and phone).
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed (or a representative list).
  3. Identification of the material on Akanaba you claim is infringing, including URL(s).
  4. A statement of good‑faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. A statement of accuracy and authority, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
  6. A physical or electronic signature of the owner or authorized agent.

Send your notice to our legal contact at policy@akanaba.org. We may request additional information to verify your claim.

Linked content & third parties. If the allegedly infringing material resides on a third‑party site (e.g., the full text at a publisher, a dataset hosted elsewhere, or a YouTube video), you may need to contact that host directly. We can remove or modify our references/embeds as appropriate but cannot remove content we do not host.

3) What we do when we receive a Notice

  • We review the notice for completeness.
  • We may remove or disable access to the material, or limit visibility while we review.
  • We notify the user who uploaded or controls the material (when applicable).
  • We may request clarifications from either party.

4) Counter‑Notice / Appeals (if you believe we made a mistake)

If your material was removed due to a notice and you believe this was an error or misidentification, you may send a counter‑notice containing (17 U.S.C. §512(g)(3)):

  1. Your contact info (name, address, email, and phone).
  2. Identification of the removed material and its prior location (URL).
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good‑faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district of your address (or, if outside the U.S., the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida) and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original notice or their agent.
  5. Your physical or electronic signature.

Send your notice to our legal contact at policy@akanaba.org. If we receive a valid counter‑notice, we may restore the material no earlier than 10 and no later than 14 business days after receiving a valid counter-notice, unless we are informed the complainant has filed a court action.

5) Repeat‑Infringer Policy

In appropriate circumstances, and at our discretion, we may terminate accounts of users who are repeat infringers. We may also remove or restrict profiles that repeatedly post infringing or otherwise unlawful content.

6) Misrepresentation & Abuse (17 U.S.C. §512(f))

Submitting a false claim or counter‑notice may expose you to liability for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees. Please ensure you have a good‑faith basis and the authority to act.

7) Other IP rights

For trademark or right‑of‑publicity concerns, contact policy@akanaba.org with sufficient detail (mark, registration/ownership details, the specific pages/URLs, and the nature of the claim).

8) Policy updates

We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted in the Service. The current version controls.

Practical tips

  • Include URLs and screenshots where possible.
  • If a profile uses public metadata in a way you believe misattributes authorship, include correct references; we are happy to correct errors.
  • For external datasets or publisher‑hosted content, contact the host; we do not store those files on Akanaba.
